Project Progress : Rad Poster

Art, Projects

I think I mentioned a WHILE back that I was working on a new poster for the movie Rad.  I was originally planning to do it in more of a line drawing/hand inked style but after a bunch of drawings I realized that I’m just not happy with the way I draw people… yet. But I am happy with my vector drawings of people,  so  recently I’ve gotten a little more excited about it and I’m making some progress on it. Here’s a sneak peak at two drawings that will be featured on the poster.  I’m not finished with them but I think that I’m going in the right direction. I just need to get the layout right and include all the moments that I love from the movie.

Either I need to work on my inking or my drawing… or both.

I just can’t ever seem to draw people the way I like it. I guess I need more practice but I really don’t like drawing people. This picture is supposed to be Lori Laughlin and Bill Allen doing some “Ass Sliding” down into the river.  What it kind of looks like is Ally Sheedy from the Breakfast club and “Vampire Bill” from True Blood sliding down an explosive river. But I’m working on it.

Trying new things, again.

I haven’t been doing much drawing in the last couple of years and my skills have sort of plateaued. I’ve always used my sketchbook to quickly get new ideas out of my head and work them out a little before I go to the computer. But recently I’ve been really interested in illustration and posters, so I decided that I’m going to get better at drawing and that’s going to affect all my work for the best.

My current project is a poster for RAD in the style of Tyler Stout’s Alamo Draft House posters. If it comes out it’s going to be epic.
