swalrus.org up and bloggering

Projects, websites

I’ve set up the art blog over at swalrus.org

I’ve linked it to my flickr account so all I have to do is upload a picture to flickr and then click “blog it” to send it over to the site. It’s been working pretty well. I’ve documented some of the projects I did last year. I’m trying to keep it updated regularly. We’ll see how long it lasts.

pregeration situation

Projects, Stuff and Things

This is “The Pregerator” it’s the kegerator I made for our bar. Up until last year we could only fit quarter kegs in it because of the compressor shelf at the lower back of the fridge. The smaller keg would sit on the shelf (and a box of popcorn) and the original door would close.

But that got old fast.

So I cut away most of the original door and redid the insulation with spray foam. Then I shaped the outside and used fiberglass to give it a hard outer shell. Finish with krylon textured paint and here you have it. I even reused the kenmore logo on the door.

It’s been working fine for about two years now. I think it’s the smallest full sized kegerator out there, DIY or commercial.

I should market this!

sketchbook cover

Art, Projects

I finished scanning in my sketchbook last night. I think I scanned in 63 pages. I basically scanned in any page with something that I thought might be interesting on it. I don’t think I’ll upload every page or even all of the good ones. I’ll probably cut and paste some of the better drawings.

It’s interesting to look back on things that I drew a couple years ago. It made me think two things. 1.) Sometimes I can draw some pretty interesting things. and 2.) I need to draw more often! (it took me almost 2 years to finish this one)

I’ll post the best pictures later

Vienna Skull and Nuts society?

Art, Projects

This is a door knocker I made for the house in Vienna. I hadn’t sculpted anything in a while and thought it would be easier (and cheaper) than trying to find one like this in a store or online. I found most of the supplies at Michaels, with a few nuts and bolts coming from Home Depot.

I really think it came out great. I think if I did it again I might get the dimensions of the skull a little more exact, find a more decorative backing plaque and a better knocker than a U-bolt with washers and nuts epoxied onto it. But it has been working well for about a year now.

MTAG_80

Art, Projects

I designed a new font while doodling at my desk. Well actually I was just making psuedo chinese charchters on sticky notes with highlighters, but you get the point. I started to see that some of them could look like english letters (sort of). Then I decided to replicate it in Illustrator. Since I was using pink and yellow highlighters I thought a nice 1980’s inspired design might look cool.

I’m a sucker for pink to orange fade.

Now it’s the wallpaper on my computer. I think it looks wild. I’m making a smaller one for my phone (8125), I’ll upload that later.
