Blog Post about Blog Posts

Life, Randomness

I know I haven’t been updating this blog very much. I think it’s a combination of having too many projects and other things that I should be doing going on at once to actually have the time to put my thoughts into  a coherent article.  I have been working on a series of posts about the honeymoon in Peru (which was amazing) and I have some thoughts about things that have been going on in my life.   Also I’ve been working to finish a few projects that got put on the back burner because of all the wedding stuff.  So when I get my head straight and actually make a plan to finish some projects maybe I’ll get to post them on here.

In the mean time take a couple minutes and watch this video featuring the Georgia Aquarium. I’ve been there, it’s fantastic.

Dear Linkin Park, Thank You

Entertainment, Life, music

I never thought I would be that guy. The one who writes a fan letter to a celebrity or band. But here I sit on the train back from Macchu Picchu hammering this out on my phone. Lincoln Park hasn’t released a new album in about 7 years, a lot has happened in my life since then, when they last left me I was an angry young man of 23 just coming off of an intense breakup. Their album Meteroa was out and it mirrored my intense emotions dealing with the end to a 7 year relationship that had dominated my life for the majority of high school and college. I remember driving around by myself in my 91 Mazda Navajo playing the songs as loud as the speakers would handle screaming the lyrics and pounding the steering wheel in frustration about my life. I would learn that the anger would subside eventually and I would get on with my life. Even back then I thought about writing them to thank them for what they had done for me… But I didn’t
So now here I am 29 years old on a train in Peru sipping wine with my new wife listening to ‘A Thousand Suns’ while she reads the princess bride. How far I have come. The track ‘Robot Boy’ comes along just as the snowcapped peaks of the Andes appear in the distance. 7 years ago I never thought I could meet someone like Laurel, someone who would change my life in so many ways. I wish I could have heard this song when I was at my lowest point, but hearing it now just reminds me of the journey that has brought me here.

You say the weight of the world
Has kept you from letting go
And you think compassion’s a flaw
But you’ll never let it show
And your sure you’ve hurt in a way
That no one will ever know
But someday the weight of the world
Will give you strength to go

Hold on the weight of the world
Will give you the strength to go

I guess they have matured in the past 7 years along with me, being globe trotting rock stars will do the to you I guess.
The next song waiting for the end speaks to me a out letting go of all if the anger in my past and sharing everything with my partner I life.
Laurel, I love you.

And to the guys in Linkin Park, Thanks.

Driving to work again

Life, Randomness

When I got back from the honeymoon I got the strange news that even though we won the contract at work most of us would be reassigned to new projects. It’s a long story that I don even quite understand. But bottom line is I now work in Tyson’s Corner instead of DC.

I thought this would be great. Besides the soul crushing traffic on 123 in the morning and the fact that my commute is 3 times longer in a slight drizzle. But I forgot one crucial point… Radio commercials….

I’ve become annoyed by the Geico commercial about the spider who is washed out by a storm. Why do the mention the sleep number bed by name? Why do they tell you what the spiders sleep number is? I think it’s some kind of PR science experiment to distract you from realizing that your listening to a commercial. It’s like they think that since you heard the name of another product your mind will think you’re listening to a news program or something.

And if I have to hear the ‘Att one second behind’ commercial I’m going to break a hole in the dash of my car. I have a message for you advertising agency, I change the station one second into that commercial. You say that any publicity is good? Well F.U. in the earhole!

actually pretty much all radio commercials get on my nerves now. It’s like there’s some kind of contest to see who can come up with the most annoying one. I guess I should be lucky that at least they don’t have the eastern Motors ones anymore. Those would get stuck in your head for days. But Joe Hadeed isn’t far behind. “If you stand on it, we’ll stand behiiiiiinnd it”

Our Wedding at the Natural Bridge

Life, Women

There is no doubt in my mind that we had the best wedding we could possibly have dreamed of for us. The Natural Bridge hotel and confrence center was very accommodating for us and all of our out of town guests. While my parents would have liked us to have the wedding nearer to our homes in Northern Virginia, we strongly believe that the Shenandoah Valley is the most beautiful part of Virginia and the only place we wanted to get married. We fell in love with the bridge on our first visit down there, it’s sort of a forgotten natural wonder. I think the heyday of the hotel may have been in the 1960’s as things don’t seem to have been updated since then, which is fine with us. The main hotel has a certain charm to it of an older elegance and the staff are very nice and will go out of their way to help. Maybe it’s because we were the bridal party but we never heard a word about our whole wedding taking over the cottages and partying late for 2 nights. At one point we even joined forces with the noon wedding and partied into the night. It was an incredible experience and the hotel was great about it.

10 Days Till The Wedding

Randomness

I haven’t been updating this blog very much recently because all my free time has been spent cutting out tiny leaves for the centerpieces. Or working on the information packet. Or working out the kinks in the photo booth software. Or printing cards for the table gift. Or planning the honeymoon.

All I know is in 12 days we leave for Peru and I need a vacation.
