Allow me this rant.

Life, Rants

So I’ve noticed that my day goes by much quicker and I’m in a better mood when I listen to music all day. Why is that? Mostly because I don’t have to listen to the idiotic rantings of my slovenly cube-neighbor. He is a grade-A dork. Not only does he write bad code and yet constantly complain about others code (mostly because of formatting of all things) But he claims things are done when they are obviously not even close, which makes more work for me when I have to come in at the last minute and fix things before they go to system test and make more work for someone else.

AND HE PROBABLY MAKES TWICE WHAT I DO.

I try not to be overtly mean to him. I try to think of what my mother would do, she being the nicest person in the world. But it so hard when he punctuates every sentence with annoying staccato laughter and keeps talking long after you’ve made it clear that you’re not interested anymore.

I think he should be my main argument for a raise. I put up with this guy more than anyone else does… give me more money.

Like teeth on a chalkboard

Life, Rants

I know this blog isn’t the best designed thing in the world, I try. But it does have a lot of CSS on the back end that I understand fairly well. When I’m at work I design the front end of our application, I try. I spend all day trying to get all the buttons to move one pixel to the right while still getting the error messages to float to the left. It’s been interesting day to say the least.

So then I come across a page in the system that another developer has been working on. I can tell from the screen that it needs some cleanup. (even though he says It’s almost done!). As I’m going through it I find this.

& #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160 & #160

which is the java equivalent of “&nbsp” which is a space. I’m spending all day writing css styles to move things one pixel and this guy is aligning things by hitting the space bar 150 times.

AHHHHHHHHH.

New thoughts on my greatest enemy

Life, Randomness

Well not enemy per say, but something I think is unnecessary in most cases. The paper ass-gasket found in public restrooms. I was thinking about it again today and another good point crossed my mind. Our restroom at the office has those automatic flushers that do make things more sanitary. The less I have to touch things in there the better. But here’s the beef.

They go off pretty easily, like when a shadow crosses in front of them. So you’re standing there positioning your ass-gasket just right and you get blasted in the face with a mist of toilet water multiple times before you even sit down. Because as we all know the toilet flush can spread fecal matter all around the room. If this doesn’t seem like a fun time, just sit down and take it like a man.

My legs are a movin

Life, Randomness

I think since it’s been getting warmer outside (and inside our house) I’ve been having more trouble falling asleep. I was thinking this was because of restless leg syndome (which I’m not entirely ruling out at this point). But I think the real cause is what I’m going to call Upper Fitness Imbalance. My theory is that my lower body is in much better shape then my upper body, the divider is my waist. I’m thinking my upper body is getting tired much faster than my legs, which will only get worse as I get older and fatter. Soon I’ll look like a sausage on two toothpicks.

I need to start thinking of a treatment plan.

Summer plans at the Sausage

Life, Randomness

All this warm weather has gotten me anxious for summer. The weather was so nice on Sunday that we decided to set up the fire pit on the deck and have a little cookout. (I know, this doesn’t sound like a safe idea. But neither is anything else I do) I remembered how much fun barbecues are and how much I want to have one. Then I thought of how much fun the little pool was, so I want to set that back up. Then that led me to the Wiffleball home run derby. I know I might have to wait to get all three of these ideas into one day of awesomness, but here’s list of summer fun at the Vienna Sausage (dates still to come)

  • Summertime and the Livin’s EZ barbeque: featuring Meat
  • Pool Opening Party: Hurry up before it grows algae
  • Dude we made a slip and slide / somebody take Jesse to the hospital
  • How drunk can I get before sundown challenge aka: Wiffle ball home run derby
  • Mark’s Birthday Party

I guess we knew it couldn’t happen every year.

Life, Randomness

But that doesn’t mean that we didn’t hope it could! Going into this weekend we knew that it had been a disappointing season. Not just by comparing it to last season, but our team has been pretty good for a couple years now. It just seems that we can’t handle the pressure of having the bulls-eye on our backs all season. We lost a lot of tough games along the way to VCU, ODU, and (dear lord) William and Mary. But this is March. This is Mason time.

Not really expecting much I couldn’t even find the first game on tv on Friday. Then I had a wedding to go to on Saturday so I missed that one too. On a lazy Sunday afternoon I found the ODU game on Comcast Sportsnet, that was a good Mason game. Our defense was solid, Dre Smith was lighting it up from outside, and Campbell was leading the way. But then Monday, the pressure started.

I’m not going to give play by play or anything but lets say that it was a great game until the last 3 minutes. That Maynor kid from VCU took over and won the game with steals and from the line. We (without our first option point guard) just kept giving them points. It’s sad… but we can’t be Cinderella every year. Hopefully we’ll make a strong showing in the NIT and we have almost all of our players coming back next year.
